If you haven't read this sweet Christmas book, I encourage you to do so. This is a great story for families to read together this time of year. The illustrations from cover to cover are beautiful, and reading about this special Christmas with the Cole family will certainly warm your heart.
This story takes place in the early 1900s in the small town of Benham, Kentucky. It's about a real life family of eleven, who learn that Christmas joy can come from so much more than gifts found under the tree.
It reminded me of the stories I read as a child about Laura Ingalls Wilder. The humble log cabins. The chores that everyone in the family were responsible for to keep the home running. The great appreciation for the simplest things in life: food, shelter, and love.
The author of the book is the granddaughter-in-law of the youngest and last surviving member of the nine Cole children. Together, with recollections from their family members, a beautiful story has been born.
