I have a new friend
(She calls me her "partner in crime".)
She asks me about school and the kids and what's going in my life.
And she's 85.
Her husband is being treated by my physical therapist husband, and she asked for my company.
And I love every minute of it!
(And not just 'cause there's wine involved, I promise.)
My grandmother is 86, and she and I have a wonderful relationship.
Until my husband got into PT school, I lived 1-2 blocks from her for 22 years. We were always at her house growing up, whether she needed to watch us while my parents were busy or just because I wanted to be there.
To this day I call her weekly, because I love her and want to keep in touch.
I think because of that relationship, I have always felt very comfortable sitting with, talking, sharing with, and enjoying the company of those wise, older women who have been around the block a few times and have pearls of wisdom to share.
(Or to enjoy a glass of wine with.)
I'm pretty sure that when therapy is finished, we'll still be enjoying this couple's company and watching the golf course across the street.
I know I look forward to it.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Friends for life
(And the best state, of course-- Texas.)
Some of these people I talk to on a regular basis. Some, every few years.
But they are all people I know I could call at a moment's notice that would help me out however they could.
Though I know friendships can often be seasonal, I love it when God brings people into your life that take off their shoes and plan to stay for a while.
The kind of friends you can open up your heart to and cry with, and they cry along with you.
The kind that you can laugh with and be yourself with, and because of that they love you even more.
We had those friends over last night as they were traveling through Texas, since their home is now elsewhere.
We've been friends with this family for about eight years (I think). Lots of memories have been made with them, lots of bread broken together.
We love them and are so thankful they chose to stay with us during their exhausting "vacation".
It was a quick 24-hour visit, but it was such a blessing.

An amazing blessing
The day we left to go back to my mom's, my grandmother wanted to take us to eat seafood. Since I am not one to turn down shrimp in any form or fashion, I got myself ready REAL quick.
We made a stop at the bank, and when we walked in the door of the seafood restaurant, you will never believe who was standing right in front of me.
Brandi.
You will have to go back and read that post to know who I'm talking about, but y'all, that was one of those very special gifts from God that only He could orchestrate. I don't think I've seen her in at least fifteen years, and I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am that we are in touch again.
It was truly, truly a blessing.

Good friends, great times
Recently this family moved closer to where we live, and this weekend was the first time we all had a free night to get together. And what a blessing it was!
We caught each other up on the last ten years, and we laughed at how things have changed. During PT school, we had the little ones. Now our friends have four young children, and they are all so precious.
It felt so good to look across the table at friends who we've shared such sweet memories with. When we knew them ten years ago, our lives were very different. I was a young mother, learning how to be a godly wife (and making many mistakes, I might add). K started a small Bible study, and I remember how much I soaked that time up with her and the two other women involved.
J was a strong godly man that my husband admired and learned from. He was a friend and someone my husband could trust, and it meant more than J probably realized back then.
Neither of them have changed very much all this time. They are both still full of smiles and words of encouragement, and we are looking forward to spending more time with them over dinner and coffee again very soon.

I am not ashamed, because I know in Whom I believe
Mrs. B.
When I think of her, I can only smile. She has that effect on people when she comes around.
All of my life she has called me Miss Shara. I’m in my 30’s y’all, but she did that the last time I saw her. She probably started that when I was born.
She is tiny and precious, and has a heart of gold.
I can remember when I was little and my mom helped her put on fake fingernails so she would stop biting her own.
I can remember many a party at her house, for New Years Eve or just because.
She loved me when I had my daughter in high school. She encouraged me and came to my wedding.
She even bought Avon from me when I was attempting to sell it.
And now her body is suffering.
For years I -- along with so many others -- have been praying for her health. For a miracle.
Quickly.
And we are still waiting.
I know that when she meets her Savior one day, she will be perfectly healed.
Selfishly, I don’t want to wait until then to see it. I want to see it now.
No more hurting, Lord. No more medicine. No more pain.
Ever since the beginning, she has shown nothing but a positive, optimistic attitude. She knows her God. She knows His power. And she trusts in Him.
I know we are to do the same with all of our heart. (I even read about it this morning here.) But that heart that I trust with is heavy for her family right now. And for the friends who have stood by them and supported them for so many years.
Not just in sickness, but in so much more. Raising children. Golf Tournaments. Football games. Beach Weekends. The stresses of life. Laughter. Prayer.
Please say a prayer for Mrs. B and her family today. Pray for wisdom and for peace. And pray for a perfect healing.

This picture is worth 239 words (but really so much more than that)
This is my friend Amanda. She is, like, the coolest girl in the world.
The picture below is very special to me, and every time I look at it (which is all the time because it's above my kitchen sink), I smile.
I'm not doing too good so far, am I?
